Gender pay gap: European Parliament adopts new rules on binding pay-transparency measures

Our Romanian member firm Suciu – Employment and Data Protection Lawyers draws our attention to the new rules adopted at the end of March 2023 by Parliament’s plenary.

Women in the EU on average earn 13% less than men.

The new rules aim to increase pay transparency and close the gender pay gap – workers will have the right to information on pay in their category of work.

Companies will have to act if their gender pay gap is over 5%. Employers that do not comply with the rules risk dissuasive penalties, including fines.

The Council will have to formally approve the agreement before the text is signed into law and published in the EU Official Journal. The new rules will come into force twenty days after their publication.
